Rhinoplasty

RECOVERY NOTES:

In order to achieve the best possible results, the patient and doctor must work together as a team.

With rhinoplasty procedures, the patient’s activities before and after the procedure make a significant difference.

Prior to surgery, patients should strictly avoid taking any over-the-counter medications or supplements that thin the blood, including: omega-3 (fish-oil), vitamin E, aspirin, aleve, excedrin, nuprin, ibuprofen, and the like. Acetaminophen (tylenol) may be taken before surgery without thinning the blood.

After surgery, please keep your head elevated. This can dramatically reduce swelling and make for a rapid recovery. If you need to blow your nose after surgery, do so without covering your nostril. Saline spray (but never afrin or similar medications) may be used to help keep the nose moisturized if it is dry or the humidity is low, such as in the winter time. Carefully apply a thin layer of bacitracin ointment to the inside curve of the nose. Do NOT remove your splint — Dr. Summers will remove it during your follow-up appointment.

With rhinoplasty procedures, it is possible for minor swelling to persist for some time. Although this “hides” your final result, it is not something that other people will notice. Patients achieve their goals more quickly when they adhere to the recommendations provided.
