Care for the Skin You’re In

You only get one set of skin your whole life, and it’s important to take care of it. With the month of May designated National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, now’s the perfect time to form skin-healthy habits.

Avoid using tanning beds, which can damage your skin beyond repair. If you must tan, or you’re going outside for leisurely fun, avoid the sun’s peak hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Whenever you’re soaking up the sun, protection is key. That means wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses that cover the entire eye area. Sunscreen is your friend, and you want to look for a brand with SPF of 30 or higher. Just don’t forget to reapply the sunscreen every couple of hours.

Even the proper diet can protect your skin. Foods like kale, soybeans, dairy products and salmon are packed with skin-improving vitamin D.

You might also consider a cosmetic procedure to revitalize your skin. Dr. Adam Summers and staff at Maryland Plastic Surgery offer treatments with PureRx, a topical antioxidant that destroys harmful free radicals. PureEx will leave you with younger, healthier skin in just a few sessions.
