Eliminate under-eye bags with the right procedure for your age

No one wants bags under their eyes. However, depending on your age, the cause of these bags could vary. As such, it is important to take the appropriate approach to eliminating under-eye baggage based on how old you are, among other factors.

According to The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s Smart Beauty Guide, mild swelling and puffiness under your eyes could simply be a sign of growing older, but if you’re in your 20s or 30s it could be from lack of sleep, dehydration or another factor. Below are a few tactics for tackling under-eye bags at every decade:

20s – When you’re in your 20s, under-eye bags are mostly likely caused by lifestyle, rather than any other issue. Excess salt or alcohol consumption, inadequate rest or dehydration are the primary culprits, as they cause fluid accumulation in the space below the eyes and the eyelids. However, all of these can be addressed by changing your habits. Cut back on liquor and salt, drink more water and get more sleep and you will likely see this issue disappear completely.

30s – While 30-somethings might see bags under their eyes for the same reasons as someone in their 20s, it’s also possible that they are caused by the early stages of collagen in the skin beginning to break down. You could use creams or lotions to boost collagen production, but there are laser treatment or injectable dermal fillers that can be highly beneficial.

40s – Sadly, once you’re in your 40s under-eye baggage is almost assuredly a symptom of aging, so anti-aging procedures such as dermal fillers or botox are your best course of action.

50s – As you continue to age, under-eye baggage may begin to get more severe, and require more than non-invasive cosmetic procedures to fix. At this point, you should discuss blepharoplasty with your plastic surgeon. This eye lift surgery can completely eliminate bags, especially when paired with a minimally-invasive facial rejuvenation options like Botox to refresh your appearance on a regular basis.
